Both Feet On the Ground - Pt. 4

Like I stated in my last post, Beckham decided to move to Real Madrid. This team is no ordinary because it holds the greatest records in the world. They are very successful in finance and they are also very strong as a team because the squad consists of the Galacticos. The Galacticos are a name for the superstar soccer players in Real Madrid. Since Real Madrid was a big and a rich club, it was possible for them to buy any player they wanted. The members of the Galacticos were Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul, Van Nistelrooye, Roberto Carlos and other great players. Since Beckham was such a special player, he became part of the Galacticos.
It was hard for the Beckham family to move and leave everything behind. However, it was decided so they moved to Madrid and bought a beautiful building. During that time, David was under so much pressure from the paparazzi and the news scandal about the incident between Alex Ferguson and David. Every pre-season, it is Real Madrid's tradition to go to Japan and other countries to play. In his first game, Beckham scored for Real Madrid from Ronaldo's cross. Beckham describes that feeling very accurately, and wrote how it was amazing to work as a team in the all-white jersey.
Another thing about moving to Real Madrid is that he felt like he really fit into Real Madrid, even though the team didn't win any more titles since Beckham came. The titless two years were not because of Beckham. He helped in numerous games and enjoyed it. In his book, he said how he loved the Madrid fans and the love for the culture. Ofcourse, who wouldn't love that funny language.

Both Feet On the Ground Pt.3

Around eighteen, he was allowed to play for Manchester United. During this time, he tells about his friends and peers. His friends were also other young talented players who was in Manchester United. Together, they shared one same love, and that was to play for Manchester United team. For two years, he played for Manchester United with great pride. He scored numerous goals and did really well. He especially known for his skill in scoring goals from free kick shots. This meant that his practices with his dad payed off and he was becoming popular. Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes were his friends that stayed with him for a very long time. They knew each other so well and worked great as a team. During the 1998 World Cup, Beckham was sent off as a red card, because he kicked the opponent team's balls. It was a bad choice from his side, and he was put down by the papers and paparazzi. That was when he was really down and felt like going quitting, because at that moment he had a girl friend. And they were saying crap about her on the papers.

One day, he scored an amazing volley shot with his right foot and had a great game. After the match, the Spice Girls came for advertisement reasons. Beckham was truly attracted to Victoria Posh. The Spice Girls were really popular at the moment and were a global attractions. From then on, Beckham watched the Spice Girls and after that he decided to ask Posh on a date. He went to her one day and asked her if she would like to go on a date with Beckham. Posh was also a young lady at the moment and a single. Out of courtesy, she agreed and they went on a dinner with Beckham's car. Even though, it wasn't a great moment, he got to know her a bit more and didn't regret their first date. Now, Beckham had never been on a date, so he was very nervous. He decided to ask her for a second date. Even though, it wasn't as awkward, it was still very cheesy. However, as the years went on, they fell in love with each other.

He played in Manchester United for about ten years. So many moments and events happened for Beckham at this time. During his career in Manchester United, he was assigned for a captain representing his country. That was when he also scored the legendary goal from the halfway line. He was getting attention from all over the world by his iconic image and his amzing talents. However, all these popularity wasn't like Beckham. Beckham, wasn't really trying to get all these attention but Alex Ferguson thought David was being too cocky. That was when Ferguson threw his boot to Beckham and hit his eyebrow. The cut was wide and stitches were needed. This made a big news and caused David Beckham change his team. His still loved Manchester United, but a poor relationship with it's manager lead Beckham to change his team. In 2003, he moved to Real Madrid for a five year deal.

Both Feet On the Ground - Pt. 1

Goal! Goal! Goal!
Beckham is one of the most known and most recognized soccer player in the world. As a soccer fan, I believe that there are two factors that play in his popularity. One is because soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and Beckham have an amazing skill in soccer. That skill would be his legendary way of bending the ball and scoring it behind the nets. Another reason would be his iconic and attractive image. He is not only a soccer player, but a celebrity in Hollywood with his wife Victoria Beckham. In his book Both Feet on the Ground, Beckham writes and tells about his story. A story that is biased but takes deeper on how Beckham felt on some of his careers.

Beckham was grown in England by Manchester. Since he was young, he was in love with soccer. One of the first people who recognized his passion was his dad. His dad was never against his love for soccer, but always supportive. He grew up by his dad, learning about things. His dad wasn't only playing soccer with him, but preparing him to become a professional player. Mr. Beckham had so much hope that he would never give up. As a young boy, Beckham would always go to the park with his dad and always practice free kick. It was as if his dad knew that he had great talents in becoming a great free kick taker. For a pause, a free kick in soccer is when a foul occurs around the box, which is outside the goal. This would occur alot in soccer so everyone would take it as a big-time oppurtunity to score a goal.

When he was young, he was a bit small in size. However, it didn't stop him at all. His right foot kicking ability was so good and well trained that he would be able to kick score alot. Another skill that he mentioned that he practiced was his crossing skills. In his book, he writes about how he and his dad would pass around at each other. As you might have guessed, his dad was a also a soccer fanatic and he worked for the Manchester United team. They would watch their games together, and he wrote that his favorite player was Eric Cantona. Indeed, Eric Cantona was a great player in his prime. Unlike him, his dad wanted David Beckham to play right midfield. He would tell him to go out wide so he can recieve a pass and give a cross to help the team score. On his sixteenth birthday, Alex Ferguson comes and asks him if David can play for the team. Not the pro, but Manchester United youth team. This gave David something to look forward to, and a greater future.

Both Feet on the Ground Pt.2

When I read this time, it reads about how Beckham was signed by Manchester United on his sixteenth birthday by Alex Ferguson himself. I can imagine Beckham. A man which always showes up on TVs and one of the most respected managers in the world comes to your home and offers a deal with you to play for one of the best soccer teams in the world. That would be such an interesting and adrelanine rushing feeling. Beckham joifully accepts it and becomes part of the Manchester United youth team. It later reads that he goes on to play with his youth team and scores numerous goals that have brought them to the finals. It also said that he was still loyal to his "after-dinner" freekick practices. He expresses his feelings toward freekicks by writing how much joy he gets from bending the ball to the top corner. This habit later develops into a world-class success.
He tells how much he got into a habit of playing soccer, that he put all of his trust and decided to aim for becoming a professional player. Since eighteen years old, he was invited to the under ninteen national soccer team for England. Since I know a lot of stuff about soccer, being invited to play for your team up two years means that one has a really precious skill. Sure enough, Beckham makes it precious and with his support and friends he decided to try hard and hoppe for the best. When Beckham turns around eighteen, he was asked by Ferguson him self to play for the actual team and turn pro. That is when his legacy turns into a high profile player.
